The word peeling means "skin peeling". It is the exfoliation or shedding of the various layers of the skin.
It consists of applying different chemical substances to remove dead "old" skin cells, revealing new skin with fewer imperfections thanks to cellular renewal and regeneration.
From providing more luminosity and hydration to treating various imperfections such as acne scars, active acne, hormonal spots, sun spots, fine wrinkles, and alterations in skin texture and/or tone uniformity.
The choice of substances to use depends on what is being treated and the desired results.
These treatments may require several sessions and achieve very good results alone or combined with other techniques. Each case is studied individually and personally in the medical consultation.
Each acid used, once applied appropriately, will be neutralized and removed after the indicated time. A sensation of itching and burning on the skin will be noticed, which will disappear as the post-peeling moisturizing cream or mask is applied.
There are different treatment levels:
The difference between them is the depth to which the chemical penetrates, affecting different layers of the skin. Each involves different preparation and post-treatment.
Superficial and medium-depth peelings are the most common and the ones we perform to provide luminosity, hydrate, treat photoaging, skin spots, and skin roughness, as well as to promote tone uniformity. They do not require topical anesthetics.
It is very important to highlight the skin preparation with products prescribed by the doctor before and after the peeling, along with the patient’s strict commitment to using sun protection to avoid side effects such as spots.
In the following days, a fine peeling of the skin will be noticed along with possible redness, which will be alleviated with appropriate hydration.
